For the vast majority of house moves you exchange and complete on the same day, meaning that you can move directly from your old home to your new one on the same day. Sometimes, it’s not quite that straightforward, where you may have to move quickly for work, for repairs or renovation to your property, or there is a delay with your new property completing and you decide to proceed with your sale so as not to lose your buyer.
Moving house can be very stressful but if you have to move into temporary accommodation whether it’s for a couple of days, a few weeks or months it can seem even more stressful. But careful planning and a good removal company can really make things much easier.
Depending on your individual circumstances and what type of temporary accommodation you choose, you may have to consider what to do with all your possessions. If you are temporarily moving into a rented property you may be able to take your things with you. If you contract the same removals company to undertake the removal from your existing home, store and then deliver your items to your new home this will often work out cheaper (and be less stressful) than trying to arrange three different services. Most removal companies will also be flexible if you need to extend the storage term for a little longer than anticipated.
You should check that the storage is fully secure, has CCTV monitoring and ensure that everything is insured in the unlikely event of a problem.
