How O’Connor & Co started
Hello, my name is Sean and I’m the founder of O’Connor & Co Removals LTD, named after my Grandad Desmond O’Connor.
I was out of work with a newborn son and my partner, I needed to do something. I have always enjoyed helping others including overseas aid work and helping local charities.
Armed only with ambition, I went to the Princes’ Trust and set out on a 4-month long journey working on a business plan, admittedly with no monies coming in, desperately trying to find work to support my young family.
After 4 long months, I went to the ‘Dragons Den’ style panel of ‘Princes’s Trust’ judges, I was unfortunately turned down. Devastated, I didn’t give up, with the support of my partner Hayley, my rock, I spent a further 2 months working on my business plan to succeed.
I went back to the panel of “dragons”. I had learnt a lot and I was awarded a £4,000 loan to set up, I sold my car and everything I owned to get my first vehicle, some equipment and to cover the first year of insurance, this was the birth of O’Connor & Company.
Since then (just several years later), our local family-run company, has grown to be one of the Midlands most sorted after, quality removal services. With a modern fleet of vehicles, a logistics warehouse and my family and friendly work colleagues: Winning twice New Business of the Year in two counties, winning twice Overall Customer Service of the Year in two counties and the top accolade twice, in two years: OVERALL Business of the Year to name a few, alongside that we are in the UK’s top 10% of Which Trusted Traders.
How was it done?
We promise and deliver on our service, our team have had the best training, the best minds, the right tools and equipment, we hire on trust, honesty and integrity and value our staff as much as all our customers. ALL our customers’ wants and needs are unique and all our customer are VIP’s.
Why is it our mission?
Because I have a passion to help change the world and I set out to help others whilst being able to support my family. We support 100% not for profit Alzheimer’s UK and other local charities. We believe in care, empathy and quality in everything we do. With our experience, we understand how stressful moving house is, combined with the help of free guides, the highest quality service we can give and great aftercare, we BELIEVE in making a difference in the world, one move at a time…
Our chosen charity is Alzheimer’s Research UK, the UK’s leading dementia research charity. Backed by passionate scientists and supporters, they are challenging the way people think about dementia, uniting the big thinkers in the field of dementia research, and funding the innovative science which will bring about treatments for the diseases which cause dementia.
One in three people born today will develop dementia in their lifetime unless we bring about life-changing preventions and treatments. That’s why at O’Connor & Co we are passionate about supporting Alzheimer’s Research UK so that we can be the last generation to fear dementia.
